Belarusian rescue workers on wildfire-fighting mission in Turkey

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarusian rescue workers have arrived in Turkey to help battle wildfires, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Emergency Ministry.

“A Mi-8 helicopter of the Emergencies Ministry has landed in Turkey. The aircraft is at Corlu Airport at the moment. The crew members are getting ready for the test flights scheduled for 28-29 April,” the Ministry noted.

The seven-strong crew of the Emergencies Ministry took off from Lipki airfield near Minsk at 6:00 on 26 April. The Belarusian rescuers are to perform the duty in mountain forests. The Mi-8 helicopter will help extinguish fires and deliver the local rescue workers to the seat of fire.

This is not the first time the Emergency Ministry’s aircraft help Turkey fight wildfires. Last year, Belarusian rescuers carried out 91 missions in Turkey. They dropped over 1,100 tonnes of water wildfires and transported more than 200 passengers.
