Belarusian PM to attend meeting of SCO summit

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) - Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko will take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states on 30 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

The event will be held via a video link.

The government leaders are expected to discuss the prospects and measures to deepen cooperation in trade, economy and investment, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The work of the SCO Business Council and the SCO Interbank Association for 2019-2020 will be reviewed. The organization's budget for 2021 and other issues related to the financial and organizational activities of the SCO bodies are also on the agenda.

The SCO unites eight countries (India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). Four countries have observer status (Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia), six countries are dialogue partners (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka). The SCO Council of Heads of Government meets once a year to discuss the strategy of multilateral cooperation, to address the fundamental issues of cooperation in economy and other sectors.

Belarus received an observer status in the SCO in July 2015 and takes part in all the main areas of its activities: political-diplomatic, trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian.
