Belarusian Parliament outlines guidelines for international activities in 2026

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - Strengthening national defense capabilities, boosting the country's economy, and expanding parliamentary ties were outlined the key guidelines for the international activities of the House of Representatives in 2026, BelTA has learned

During a meeting on 9 January, the Council of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly reviewed a set of issues related to international activities. These activities are carried out by the House of Representatives in strict accordance with the country's foreign policy, which aims to preserve peace, maintain global and regional security, foster economic development, and improve the quality of life for citizens.

It was noted that the situation on the external contour remains complex. However, despite all attempts to destabilize the global situation, Belarus has a clear understanding of its direction and objectives.

First of all there is a need to exert maximum efforts in strengthening Belarus’ defense capabilities.

Technical modernization, combat coordination, enhancing the prestige of those who defend the Motherland, and military-patriotic education for the youth are the avenues that require special attention, including in legislative and international work, as well as in interactions with constituents.

A separate priority is military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation, which creates tangible guarantees of peace and security, ensuring the inviolability of the western borders in the face of an unprecedented scale of militarization on the European continent.

Secondly, it is essential to strengthen defense capabilities, which are fundamentally underpinned by a robust economy. Therefore, it is necessary to continue efforts to deepen cooperation within the framework of the Union State in critical sectors such as machine tool manufacturing, aircraft manufacturing, microelectronics, and others. It was emphasized that the joint ventures and production facilities that are focused on import substitution must reliably safeguard the technological sovereignty of Belarus and Russia. These are priority areas for the practical work of the national delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Thirdly, it is important to more actively utilize the potential of the parliamentary dimension within the CSTO and the CIS.

Fourthly, it is essential to continue the course of Belarus’ comprehensive participation in the processes shaping a multipolar world, utilizing parliamentary diplomacy as a key instrument of interstate engagement. This pertains to the work of MPs in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Latin American Parliament, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Pan-African Parliament, and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The House of Representatives is convinced that parliamentary ties within the frameworks of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) must be expanded more actively.

The House of Representatives is confident that the same approach should be promoted on the bilateral track in political and economic cooperation with China, India, Indonesia, and other far-abroad nations.
