MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Work is underway to arrange visits of parliamentary delegations of Switzerland and Moldova to Belarus, Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, told journalists on 21 January, BelTA has learned.

The Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives convened for a meeting on 21 January. The commission reviewed a draft plan of international parliamentary cooperation of the House of Representatives for 2021. The plan will be adopted at a meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives, Andrei Savinykh noted.

“I would like to stress that international contacts have recently intensified within the framework of parliamentary organizations, including the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the CIS, and the Central European Initiative. This gives us hope for more robust contacts and for some success in reining in the coronavirus,” Andrei Savinykh said. “The plan also envisages bilateral contacts. Belarus plans to send official delegations to Egypt, Serbia, and, perhaps, Hungary. We are also working on visits of Swiss and Moldovan MPs to Belarus. Plans are in place to organize events of friendship groups with Iran, Turkey, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, and several other countries,” he added.

The Standing Commission on International Affairs also discussed the legislation development plan for 2021 that was approved by the president’s Decree No.2 of 4 January 2021. “The commission intends to consider two bills in the first half of the year: on external migration and on the diplomatic service. I expect that all members of the commission will actively participate in drafting these bills,” Andrei Savinykh stressed.
