Belarusian MPs urged to continue work with partners on principles of equality, respect

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – MPs will continue contacts with foreign partners on principles of equality and mutual respect, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at the opening of the 4th session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation, BelTA has learned.

The speaker thanked foreign MPs who observed the Belarusian election and showed an objective approach to the assessment of the results. “First of all, these are the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly who have made a univocal conclusion about the constitutionality of the election and its democratic nature in full compliance with the national legislation. We are grateful to Russian colleagues and MPs from other countries for the serious support which they continue to provide in various international organizations,” he said.

Vladimir Andreichenko also mentioned constructive cooperation with Chinese partners who have had a wise and balanced stance on Belarus from the beginning. “Our contacts have a systematic nature and reaffirm our mutual commitment to the development of the entire spectrum of mutually beneficial cooperation. We continue to communicate with MPs from other countries at the Interparliamentary Union, the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly, parliamentary organizations of the OSCE and the Council of Europe,” he said.

At the same time, the speaker stressed that in spite of the long way of building constructive dialogue relying on the objective assessment of the situation certain foreign politicians today make statements on the brink of direct interference in internal affairs of a sovereign state. Such actions have an obviously unfriendly nature, undermine trust between countries and do not contribute to the strengthening of regional security.

“Nevertheless, members of the House of Representatives need to continue contacts with all foreign colleagues to provide objective information about the situation in the country to the international community. For this purpose, it is essential to step up the operation of interparliamentary commissions and working groups of the National Assembly on cooperation with foreign MPs. We hope for understanding and development of cooperation on principles of equality, mutual respect and care of the interests of all participants of the dialogue,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

As far as the short-term plans are concerned, MPs should mull over their participation in the forthcoming events of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly taking into account modern challenges and treats to national security and economic security.
