Belarusian MPs to visit China in autumn

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – A Belarusian parliamentary delegation plans to visit China in the autumn, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a meeting to discuss the preparations for the upcoming visit, BelTA has learned.

“We have plans to pay an official visit to China in autumn. Preparations are underway. But we need to finalize some details,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

According to him, great expectations are associated with the projects of the Industry Ministry. “We have some proposals regarding the cooperation with BelAZ and Gomselmash. We need to polish them up by the time of the visit so that we could sign an agreement. Efforts of the companies from Brest merit respect, especially those of Savushkin Product dairy. I am referring to the proposals regarding export and sales. Out of all the regions, it is Brest Oblast that has been working meticulously and aggressively,” the speaker said.

He stressed that China is a strategic partner of Belarus. “We have laid down great groundwork. I would like to mention that this groundwork and also the projects that we are implementing today have come to fruition thanks to the efforts of President Alexander Lukashenko. The second level, namely the Belarusian government bodies, are slightly underperforming, I believe. There is a lot of red tape. The work on a number of issues, which were talked over at the highest level, progresses slowly," said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

He also expressed criticism of the local authorities. All regions and the city of Minsk have failed to implement the decisions taken by the head of state to attract foreign direct investment from China. Enterprises have been slow to act as well. We need to improve the situation. There are no insurmountable obstacles here,” the speaker noted.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that there is a need to step up trade, economic, regional cooperation, and parliamentary contacts. “We see the areas where we can cooperate for the benefit of the Belarusian economy, provided that we make a wise use of the potential that we have built at the top political level,” he noted.
