Belarusian Molodechno, Chinese Yunfu to advance cooperation in economy, social sphere

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian city of Molodechno, Minsk Oblast and the Chinese city of Yunfu, Guangdong Province signed an agreement of intent to establish twin-city relations during a business meeting at premises of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by the head of the Molodechno District administration Yuri Gorlov and Yunfu Mayor Wang Sheng. The sides have agreed to support friendly relations between residents of the two cities, help establish economic and trade contacts, cooperate and arrange exchange programs in the spheres of science and technology, education, culture, and other areas.

According to Yuri Gorlov, Chinese consumers already know products made by a number of Molodechno District companies such as the Malinovshchina-based distillery Akvadiv, the Molodechno dairy plant, and OOO Veles-Meat. In 2018 alone these companies exported $1.5 million worth of merchandise to China. In Q1 2019 the export figure doubled in the comparison with the same period of last year. However, Molodechno has something else to offer on top of trade and economic cooperation. “We could work together in the social sphere, too. Molodechno is a cultural center of Minsk Oblast. If the partners are interested in our experience, we are ready to share the knowledge,” Yuri Gorlov said.

In turn, Wang Sheng noted that strong foundation for future cooperation with regions of China had already been laid in Belarus. “Belarusians show a very warm attitude to the Chinese nation. You have an excellent investment climate. There is scientific and technical potential. We are particularly impressed by the processing industry. The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone is an example of successful cooperation of our countries. The agreement between Molodechno and Yunfu will open another avenue of our cooperation. Both cities have a rich history and culture, multiple agricultural and processing enterprises. They have excellent prospects and a huge potential for interaction,” the Yunfu mayor believes.

After the official part of the meeting the Chinese delegation will travel to Molodechno and will visit the main enterprises.
