MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) - The Belarusian government is preparing a new program of measures to increase electricity consumption in the country, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Kukharev said as he took part in a meeting of the Housing and Utilities Ministry to review its performance in the first half of 2020, BelTA has learned.

“Increasing electricity consumption is very important for the country in view of the upcoming launch of the nuclear power plant. We will have a large amount of electricity. Now we are working on a policy document to increase electricity consumption which covers all activities and industries,” Vladimir Kukharev said.

According to him, the issues of heating houses (both multi-storey and single-storey), and dachas will be given serious consideration.

“This program will outline approaches, deadlines, and financing so that every applicant could get enough electricity to heat their homes in the shortest possible time. We are also working to double the volume of construction of houses with electric heating from next year,” Vladimir Kukharev said.
