Belarusian-French interparliamentary contacts in focus in Minsk

French MPs met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – A delegation of the France-Belarus friendship group of the French parliament is in Minsk for the sake of expanding the bilateral interparliamentary cooperation. The French MPs met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov and members of the Belarusian parliament’s group for cooperation with the French parliament on 3 December, BelTA has learned.

At the meeting Anatoly Rubinov remarked that the visit of the delegation was of political importance. He also said he hopes that members of the delegation would be able to generate an unprejudiced opinion about life in Belarus by looking at it with their own eyes.

At the meeting with the French MPs Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic Vladimir Senko stressed that the Belarus parliament was pleased with the fact that ways would be sought to promote interparliamentary contacts, which make part of overall interstate relations. It is easier for parliamentarians to find ways to resolve problems, he said. According to Vladimir Senko, current relations between Belarus and the Belarusian parliament on the one side and the European Union on the other side have existed for quite some time. “We saw it and still see it as strong versus weak. Belarus is no different from other post-Soviet countries as far as democratization is concerned,” said the Belarusian MP.

In turn, Chairman of the France-Belarus friendship group Gerald Darmanin underlined that it is much easier for parliamentarians to build a direct open dialogue between countries. The French MP was interested in Belarus’ vision regarding the development of the interparliamentary ties between Belarus and France.

France-Belarus friendship group of the French parliament in Minsk While in Belarus the French MPs are expected to meet with top officials of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament, the Economy Ministry, the Foreign Ministry and other bodies.

The French parliamentarians are also expected to get familiar with the operation of OAO Belarusian Autoworks (BelAZ trademark), meet with professors and students of the Minsk State Linguistic University, and visit the French-Belarusian center for European studies. The delegation will stay in Belarus till 6 December.
