MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Belarus fully supports efforts of the trilateral contact group to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement as he met with the special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office in Ukraine and in the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine’s east Heidi Grau, BelTA has learned.

Heidi Grau was in Minsk for this year’s first negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, which took place on 16 January. The Swiss diplomat was appointed special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office in Ukraine and in the trilateral contact group in late 2019, thus replacing Austrian Martin Sajdik in this position.

Vladimir Makei and Heidi Grau exchanged views on matters relating to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, including taking into account results of the Paris summit of the “Normandy Four”. The Belarusian side expressed full support for efforts of the trilateral contact group and Ambassador Heidi Grau. The Belarusian side confirmed readiness to continue enabling all the necessary conditions for effective negotiations in Minsk.
