Belarusian FM to visit Russia on 15-17 May

MOSCOW, 10 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik will pay an official visit to Russia on 15-17 May, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing in Moscow on 10 May, BelTA has learned.

"At the invitation of the Russian foreign minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik will pay an official visit to Moscow on 15-17 May.  The Belarusian foreign minister is scheduled to meet with the  Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. The talks between the foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia will focus on a wide range of topical issues of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda," Maria Zakharova said.

According to her, Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov will discuss additional measures to further the Belarusian-Russian ministerial cooperation, including the preparation of a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Foreign Ministry, which will be held in Moscow in the fourth quarter of this year. "Special consideration will be paid to the work on diplomatic support of the integration in the Union State, interstate cooperation in the CIS, cooperation as part of the programs of Russia's chairmanship in the EAEU in 2023 and Belarus’ in the CSTO. The ministers will discuss in detail the coordination of actions in international organizations, including the UN, which are based on the program of coherent actions in foreign policy of the states parties to the Union State Treaty for 2022-2023. the parties are set to exchange views on international and European security matters, coordination of actions in the Asian, African and Latin American directions, cooperation within the framework of multilateral human rights organizations, on biological and information security matters," Maria Zakharova said.

"Following the talks, the ministers are going to sign a joint statement on the common foreign policy priorities of Russia and Belarus," Maria Zakharova added.
