Belarusian diplomats attend Victory Day wreath laying ceremonies abroad

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions in a number of countries visited memorable places and laid flowers at memorials, BelTA informs citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The sacred holiday - Victory Day – has always been widely observed by Belarusian diplomats. Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions of our country invariably pay tribute to the memory of the winners,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

Employees of the Belarusian embassy in Belgium laid a wreath at the memorial to Soviet people who fell during the liberation of this country. They also commemorated the Belgians who died during World War II.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Georgia Anatoly Lis and the diplomatic staff of the embassy laid a wreath and flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Vake Park (Victory Park) in Tbilisi.

A solemn wreath laying ceremony was also held at the Soviet War Memorial and Cemetery in Herastrau Park in Bucharest. The event was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to Romania Andrei Grinkevich.

The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan Pavel Utyupin, diplomats and embassy staff laid a wreath and flowers at the Defenders of the Fatherland Monument, the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Panfilov and the memorial wall to Panfilov’s 28 Men.

Charge d’Affaires of Belarus in Poland Aleksandr Chasnovsky laid a wreath at the monument at the Soviet Military Cemetery in Warsaw. On the same day, representatives of the Belarusian embassy visited the Brodno cemetery in the Polish capital city to lay a wreath at the monument to the soldiers who died liberating Warsaw. The head and the staff of the Consulate General of Belarus in Bialystok laid wreaths and flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers who died in the battles for the city at the central civil cemetery and at two burial places at the military cemetery in Bialystok. Diplomats of the Belarusian Consulate in Biala Podlaska also commemorated the war victims.

A wreath from the Embassy of Belarus in Slovakia was laid at the Slavin Memorial Complex in Bratislava.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Uzbekistan Leonid Marinich and the embassy staff laid flowers at the Mass Graves Memorial in Tashkent. Flowers were laid at the eternal flame, as well as at the Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress steles installed at the memorial.

A commemorative rally was held on Victory Square in Bishkek to mark the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov delivered a welcoming speech, after which a flower laying ceremony was held at the Eternal Flame. Taking part in the ceremony were Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Strachko and Belarusian diplomats.

Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, Larisa Belskaya as well as Aleksei Zhbanov laid a wreath on behalf of the Republic of Belarus at the memorial to Soviet soldiers in the Hörnli cemetery in Basel.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Estonia Vyacheslav Kachanov and employees of the Belarusian diplomatic mission took part in the solemn wreath laying ceremony at the monument to the fallen in WW2 (Bronze Soldier) at the military cemetery in Tallinn.

A commemorative ceremony was also held at the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex (People’s Memory) in Turkmenistan. Taking part in the flower laying ceremony were ambassador of Belarus to Turkmenistan Vyacheslav Beskosty and the staff of the diplomatic mission. A photo exhibition Forest Song about the Belarusian partisan movement was held there. The exhibition was prepared by the National Library of Belarus.

Belarus’ Consul General in Daugavpils Ilya Laput laid flowers at the memorial to Soviet soldiers who died in World War II.

Employees of the Belarusian embassy in Bulgaria laid wreaths and flowers at the Alyosha Monument in Plovdiv.

Employees of the Belarusian embassy led by Ambassador Dmitry Koltsov laid a wreath at the monument to soldiers who died in Iran during WW2.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Maksim Yermolovich took part in the annual flower laying ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial in London.

Ambassador of Belarus to the Netherlands Andrei Yeudachenka and the embassy staff laid flowers at the Soviet Memorial War Cemetery Amersfoort (Oud Leusden).
