Belarusian delegation to partake in CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in Saint Petersburg

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – A delegation of the Belarus parliament led by Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich will take part in a session of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States and in a solemn plenary session timed to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Saint Petersburg on 16-17 April, BelTA has learned.

The upper chamber of the Belarus parliament will also send Vladimir Senko, Vladimir Pantyukhov, and Dmitry Chernyakov. The lower chamber will be represented by Vladimir Bazanov, Inessa Kleshchuk, Valentina Leonenko, Andrei Naumovich, Gennady Palchik, Valery Gaidukevich, and Natalia Guivik.

The press service of the CIS Executive Committee said that members of the Council will discuss several dozens of topical issues, will talk about the documents prepared by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and will hear out reports. Two model laws on immortalizing those, who fell to defend the Fatherland, and on patriotic education have been put together and will be submitted for consideration of participants of the plenary session in view of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.

A number of events are being held by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Victory, including a large-scale action Memory Relay Race. In capital cities of the CIS member states the Assembly’s delegations visited the largest memorials erected to honor the Great Patriotic War dead. Particles of the Eternal Flame were taken away in special capsules. Members of the delegations also met with war veterans, who live in the CIS space.

As part of the final solemn ceremony representatives of the CIS parliaments will bring together particles of the Eternal Flame to combine them into one large torch that will then be transferred to the Monument of Leningrad’s Heroic Defenders, which is a branch of the Saint Petersburg State History Museum.
