MINSK, 25 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian delegation has commenced its mission of international observation for the parliamentary elections in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, BelTA reports citing the country’s Central Election Commission.
The delegation comprises Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Aleksei Bashan, member of the House of Representatives Aleksandr Shpakovsky, and member of the Council of the Republic Sergei Meleshkin.
Today in Yangon, the delegation met with leadership of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies. The parties discussed the regional situation and Myanmar’s domestic political landscape during the ongoing election campaign.
The experts of the think tank underscored the particular significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections on 28 December for developing civil dialogue and strengthening state institutions in Myanmar. In turn, the Belarusian delegates shared their nation’s experience in conducting electoral campaigns. They noted the intensive development of bilateral ties and the special role of the two countries’ leaders, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Min Aung Hlaing, as well as their readiness to establish an active interparliamentary dialogue once Myanmar’s new legislative bodies are formed.
Additional meetings are scheduled with Myanmar’s Union Election Commission Chairman U Than Soe and with leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Belarusian delegation is observing the parliamentary elections, scheduled for 28 December 2025, at the invitation of Myanmar’s Union Election Commission.
