Belarusian Defense Ministry eager to step up cooperation with China, Azerbaijan, Iran

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Defense Ministry intends to step up cooperation with colleagues from China, Azerbaijan, and Iran, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin will participate in the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on security. On the eve of the forum’s opening, the head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry met with Minister of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China Dong Jun.
During the dialogue Viktor Khrenin outlined a number of key matters regarding Belarus-China interaction in the military sphere: “We have actively begun interaction in the field of peacekeeping activities. In this regard I would like to express gratitude for the invitation to peacekeeping courses. We will definitely participate in them, which will allow our officers to gain valuable experience from the Chinese side in this area.”
Among the key matters discussed by the defense ministers of the two countries was interaction in military personnel training. “The agreements reached in June on the training of Chinese military personnel at the Military Academy of Belarus became a manifestation of trust and a high praise of the military education system of the Republic of Belarus. For our part, we are ready to expand the list of specialties to match specific demands of our Chinese friends,” Viktor Khrenin said.
The heads of the defense agencies of Belarus and China also discussed results of joint combat training events and analyzed promising areas of cooperation.
The Chinese defense minister noted that it is necessary to unlock the potential of cooperation in new areas. “Forms of armed confrontation have changed. The role of technology is increasing in the military sphere. It creates both challenges and opportunities. We can focus together on the development of new-quality forces to achieve further progress,” he said. The Belarusian defense minister confirmed interest in deepening the exchange of experience in this direction.
On the sidelines of the Beijing forum Viktor Khrenin also met with Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Zakir Asgar Oglu Hasanov. The head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry confirmed readiness to implement the agreements reached during an official visit of the first deputy defense minister, chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army. Apart from that, the heads of the defense agencies exchanged views on the development of the military-political situation and discussed the intensification of cooperation on matters of mutual interest.
On the initiative of the Iranian side Viktor Khrenin met with Deputy Chief for Operations of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brigadier General Mohammad Taghi Osanloo. The parties exchanged views on the evolving military-political situation in the Middle East region and confirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the military sphere.
