Belarusian defense minister mentions high probability of armed provocations from Ukraine

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – The probability of armed provocations on the part of Ukraine is high. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin made the statement during the government conference hosted by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 16 August to discuss military security, BelTA has learned.

Viktor Khrenin said: “The situation in the southern theater of operations remains tense. Units of the army and the border service of Ukraine continue improving the border security system and elements of the multi-layered defense. We register active efforts of special operations forces and Ukraine’s Security Service in all sections along the state border of the Republic of Belarus.”

The defense minister also noted that reconnaissance operations launched by the Ukrainian side are constantly in progress. Unmanned aerial vehicles are actively used for that, including with attempts to violate Belarus’ airspace. “Since Ukrainian armed units are present near the border, the high probability of preparations for and actual armed provocations in our territory remains in place as well as headline-making actions, including those that will involve Belarusian nationalistic formations,” Viktor Khrenin said.
