MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Customs plans to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the U.S. Department of Justice, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee.

In late March the State Customs Committee played host to a meeting with the representatives of the abovementioned agency to the Russian Federation to discuss cooperation against drug trafficking across borders.

“A draft memorandum of cooperation has been developed to promptly share information in this area, inform each other on national legislation, and hold joint events, including those related to raising the professional level of personnel. The document will be signed in May 2019,” the State Customs Committee said.

The ministry stressed that the prevention of illicit drug trafficking, detection and suppression of international drug trafficking is a common task for the law enforcement agencies across the world. Therefore, active interaction and joint coordination of the necessary steps play a primary role in ensuring maximum security.
