Belarusian culture of peace education experience presented in New York

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation took part in the culture of peace forum in New York, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Advisor of Belarus’ permanent representative office in the UN Larisa Belskaya informed participants of the event about the national experience of education in the area of culture of peace as well as cooperation with the civil society, ethnic and religious organizations, and mass media.

In her speech during the discussion about ways to shape the culture of peace Larisa Belskaya noted that for the sake of preventing conflicts it is necessary to create a system of international relations that will be based on justice, mutual respect, dialogue and trust instead of the right of chosen nations to global or regional domination.

The recognition of the versatility of ways for progressive development of nations as a value of human civilization should be central to the system. “The idea was voiced by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko before the UN in 2005. It is still relevant today when thousands of people burned out by wars and violence are forced to leave conflict zones,” said Larisa Belskaya.

The Belarusian diplomat drew attention to the role of the family that promotes the culture of peace in the society by raising children on the basis of common human values, principles of mutual respect and justice, equality and love for one's neighbors.

Belarus’ representative called upon countries of the world to support the culture of peace as an important condition for reaching the post-2015 sustainable development goals that will be adopted by the forthcoming UN summit in New York.
