Belarus, Zimbabwe to expand parliamentary, political party cooperation

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Zimbabwe intend to further expand practical cooperation between their parliaments and political parties. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Belarus’ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Zimbabwe Yuri Nikolaichik and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The speaker highly praised the outcomes of his recent visit to Belarus and his participation in the 2nd international interparty conference ‘State sovereignty and principles of international relations in conditions of multipolarity and diversity in the 21st century’, which was held in Brest on 28-29 May. Jacob Mudenda conveyed a message of gratitude to Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko and invited him to pay a return visit to Zimbabwe.

The parties held detailed discussions on further steps to advance political and economic cooperation and strengthen humanitarian ties between Belarus and Zimbabwe. The speaker supported Belarus’ initiative to begin work on a preferential trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Zimbabwe.

The parties stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to implement Belarusian-Zimbabwean projects in agricultural mechanization and food security, industrial cooperation, energy, digitalization and education, as well as intensifying humanitarian exchanges and contacts between youth organizations of the countries.
