Belarus, Uzbekistan to step up environmental cooperation

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to intensify cooperation in environmental protection, Belarus’ Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk told BelTA after the document signing ceremony at the presence of the presidents of Belarus and Uzbekistan at the Palace of Independence in Minsk on 1 August.

The documents included an agreement between the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan on cooperation in environmental protection. The agreement was signed by Andrei Khudyk and Chairman of the Uzbekistan committee Bakhrom Kuchkarov. 

The agreement will help expand the exchange of experience between Belarusian and Uzbek counterparts, including in environmental safety, nature-oriented examination, training of Uzbekistan specialists in Belarus. “My Uzbek counterpart showed interest in many issues related to climate change, water resources, and the development of special protected areas. We have agreed to continue discussing all the abovementioned topics within the framework of the agreement,” the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection said.
