Belarus, USA want to continue dialogue on human rights

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko met with the representatives of the United States Department of State, government institutions and NGOs in order to hold the next round of the human rights dialogue, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In particular, the Belarusian delegation met with Bridget Brink, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Michael Kozak, Acting Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Gretchen Birkle, specialist at the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The sides discussed the observation of human rights by the states, including some contradictory topics for Belarus and the USA. The discussion included the state of affairs in the human rights field in Belarus and the USA. They also shared opinions about human rights cooperation in international organizations, including further interaction in the United Nations and the OSCE in the prevention of human trafficking and sexual abuse of children.

Within the framework of the human rights dialogue the Belarusian delegation took part in the round table to discuss the U.S. experience of the civil society’s participation in the process of decision making at the U.S. government at the U.S. Helsinki Commission. The event was also attended by the representatives of the American and Belarusian civil society.

Belarus and the USA are going to continue the human rights dialogue for the rapprochement of positions and further development of the Belarusian-U.S. interaction in various fields.
