Belarus urges Lithuania to fully resolve border situation

MOSCOW, 25 November (BelTA) - Belarus advocates the final resolution of all issues on the border with Lithuania, Belarusian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov told the media, BelTA has learned.

The minister described the position of the Lithuanian leadership regarding the situation at the common border as “frankly situational, emotionally uncontrolled, and in some respects even hysterical.”

“It is obvious from their stance today that these politicians are driven not by the interests of their people, business, or their own country, let alone ours or the European Union. Instead, they are motivated by certain directives from Brussels and Washington. If these politicians were truly concerned about the interests of their citizens and if their future in office depended on that, they would have already urgently entered into negotiations with the Belarusian side, as we propose, and settled the entire range of issues related to the Belarus-Lithuania border situation,” Maxim Ryzhenkov stated.

According to him, Lithuania’s current situational actions at the border can only provide a temporary solution to the situation. “We, however, advocate the final resolution of all issues at the border so that its functioning acquires a stable, predictable character for the citizens and businesses of our countries, as well as for third states that use this border. That is our proposal. Unfortunately, for now the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not ready for such negotiations,” the minister concluded.
