Belarus, United States sign agreements to combat drug trafficking

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Four memorandums of cooperation between the Belarusian government bodies and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) at the U.S. Department of Justice were signed in a ceremony at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 21 May, BelTA has learned.

The memorandums of cooperation were signed between the State Border Committee, the State Customs Committee, the Interior Affairs Ministry, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) at the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to U.S. Charge d’Affaires to Belarus Jenifer Moore, these documents are an important step towards strengthening regional security. She emphasized high standards of work of the Belarusian law enforcement bodies and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would be effective. “The documents open the way for friendly cooperation,” the U.S. charge d’affaires said.

The fight against drug trafficking is important. We hope to strengthen cooperation with Belarusian counterparts, the diplomat stressed. She added that the United States will consider Belarus’ proposal to organize joint training at the Academy of the Belarusian Interior Affairs Ministry.
