Belarus’ unfaltering dedication to safety of nuclear power plant underlined

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian side precisely honors its voluntary commitments regarding the comprehensive evaluation of risks to and safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant under construction. The Belarusian side works closely with the European Commission and the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG), BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who made the statements to answer a question of the Polish news agency PAP.

In particular, Dmitry Mironchik was asked how far along Belarus’ cooperation with the European Commission on stress testing the Belarusian nuclear power plant was and when results may be available. The official said that the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) is about to finish preparing the relevant national report based on results of the stress tests. In accordance with European specifications the report will be published, translated into English, and forwarded to the European Commission just the way the Belarusian side has repeatedly said it will do.

The sides have yet to agree on when and how a peer review of the Belarusian report on the stress tests will be performed by European experts. The Belarusian side intends to discuss the matter with European partners next week in Vienna where the 61st session of the IAEA General Conference will begin.
