Belarus, UNAIDS discuss cooperation in Minsk

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Zharko has met with Vinay Patrick Saldanha, Director at Regional Support Team for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian government.

During the meeting Vinay Saldanha expressed appreciation of the current level of interaction between Belarus and UNAIDS and welcomed the proactive efforts of Belarus to establish effective and sustainable internal responses to HIV/AIDS.

For his part, Vasily Zharko noted that Belarus’ membership in the UNAIDS coordinating board in 2017 will give a new impetus to the work of state institutions for the benefit of its citizens.

The vice premier offered UNAIDS to consider Belarus as a platform for exchanging experience of fighting against HIV.

Vasily Zharko also drew attention to the need to expand access to quality assured and affordable antiretroviral drugs and asked for assistance in resolving this issue.

During the meeting, Vasily Zharko and Vinay Saldanha also discussed a number of other issues relating cooperation in fighting HIV/AIDS.
