Belarus, UAE to cooperate in forensic examination

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus Andrei Shved and Abu Dhabi Police Chief Mohamed Khalfan Al Romaithi signed a memorandum of cooperation in the area of forensic examination in Minsk on 19 July, BelTA has learned.

In line with the document Belarus and the United Arab Emirates will cooperate in organizing personnel training in expert specializations, in scientific support for forensic examination. The two sides will also share data concerning the operation and development of various criminal record systems. Exchange programs for specialists will be arranged. The document is expected to take the bilateral contacts to the next level. Colleagues from the UAE are interested in training forensic examination professionals specializing in explosives, fires, drugs, and human DNA. “We will teach the theoretical part at the advanced training institute of the State Forensic Examination Committee but practice will make up most of the education process. We have the necessary labs for it, over 70 of them,” said Andrei Shved.

The possibility of the UAE side buying Belarus-made components of forensic examination instruments, packaging materials, and other things a forensic scientist may need was also discussed.

While in Belarus representatives of the Abu Dhabi police department were made familiar with the collection of weapons the State Forensic Examination Committee has, with DNA databases, fingerprint records, and other kinds of criminal record systems. The technology of transferring fingerprint images via cellular communication was demonstrated. The technology allows identifying persons using their fingerprint imagery under one hour. Members of the UAE delegation visited the labs that study narcotics, oil products, labs that perform elementary analysis and molecular spectral analysis. The high-tech equipment that Belarusian forensic scientists have was demonstrated.
