Belarus to reform electricity industry by 2021

Belarus to reform electricity industry by 2021

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – We are planning to improve the management framework of the organizations under the Energy Ministry in 2019-2020, Belarus’ Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media ahead of the ministry’s board meeting on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

“We plan to strengthen the management framework of the organizations of the Energy Ministry system within the next two years. First of all, we are planning to set up the state institution Gosenergogaznadzor by means of allocating the relevant structures from the system of energy supplying organizations and subordinating it to the Energy Ministry. This will help divide supervisory and manufacturing functions,” the minister said.

Another novelty is to reassign the state institution Belarusian NPP directly to Belenergo Concern, the organization that will further coordinate the exploitation of the nuclear power plant.

Some companies of the peat industry and construction industry will be merged with stable enterprises in order to improve their performance. Some organizations, based on their profile, will be handed over to the utilities organizations or other departments. Plans are in place to set up gas and energy holding companies.

“All this will help increase the efficiency of enterprises, improve the quality of service and ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply of consumers,” Viktor Karankevich noted.
