MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus is going to put more efforts into advancing military cooperation with Russia. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a solemn assembly held on 22 February ahead of Fatherland Defenders Day, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We will step up further advancement of military cooperation with our Russia for the sake of improving the defensive capability of the union.”

The president remarked that in the last six months alone the Belarusian army and the Russian one staged the large-scale joint military exercises Zapad 2021 and Allied Resolve 2022. The exercises demonstrated high cohesion of the armies of the brotherly countries.

“If need be, we will arrange new exercises whatever anyone may say on the other side of the border in response to Belarusian-Russian military exercises. It is our sovereign right to learn how to defend ourselves in our land at any time and in any place!” he stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also mentioned active advancement of interaction with allies within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The fast deployment of the CSTO collective peacemaking forces for the sake of stabilizing the situation in Kazakhstan demonstrated high potential of the organization as a key factor for ensuring security in the Eurasian space. “And I should tell you that there is another aspect of the Kazakhstan issue. We shook [foreign adversaries] once again. They were terrified by our collective defense of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Because they understand that they have to resolve the issue now, they have to bend us now, put us in our places, put us back in the livestock pen, because it will be too late tomorrow. We’ve always told them and keep telling them that they are late and it won’t work!” the head of state stressed.

“The Collective Security Treaty Organization countries are ready to continue safeguarding their military security by using all the forces and assets at their disposal,” the president said.
