Belarus to hold referendum on new Constitution in open, democratic way

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The referendum on the new Constitution should be held at the highest level, in an open and democratic way, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting in the Oval Hall of the Seat of Government on 26 May, BelTA informs.

The president spoke about the operation of the Constitutional Commission which is taking into account all constructive proposals of dialogue platforms, NGOs, teams of workers and scientists. “The referendum on the new Constitution should be held at the highest level, in an open, democratic and impeccable way. This is the pillar of legitimacy of the new Constitution which will be used by the future generation or even several generations,” the head of state remarked.

The president emphasized that it is essential to revise the election system in a way to benefit our people and country. “People should be the priority in any process,” the head of state stressed.
