Belarus to hold ministerial consultations with Germany, Poland, Estonia

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) - Belarus will hold ministerial consultations with Germany, Poland, and Estonia, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told the media on 23 February, BelTA has learned.

During the visit to Berlin on 23-25 February, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko is expected to attend the Belarusian-German ministerial consultations. The German delegation will be led by State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office Markus Ederer. The parties plan to discuss a wide range of issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda, including the current state and prospects of the Belarusian-German cooperation and Belarus-EU dialogue.

The program of the visit will include Oleg Kravchenko’s speech at the international conference “New Rules, New Space – Opportunities in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union”. The conference is organized by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce. A number of bilateral meetings will representatives of the government bodies, economic structures and the expert community of Germany will also be part of the trip. Germany is one of Belarus’ key partners in the European Union and is among its main trade and economic partners. In 2016 the bilateral trade totaled $2.28 billion.

The ministerial consultations between Belarus and Poland at the level of heads of territorial subdivisions will take place in Warsaw on 27 February. The Belarusian delegation will be led by Head of the Europe Department at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Vorobyov. The consultations will focus on the efforts to strengthen the bilateral dialogue through the intensification of economic and cross-border cooperation, prospects of developing sectoral and interregional contacts, interaction with Belarus-EU dialogue.

On 1 March Minsk will play host to the political ministerial consultations between Belarus and Estonia. The Belarusian delegation will be headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko. The parties will discuss the promising areas in political, trade and economic cooperation, share opinions on the current international agenda and the development of Belarus-EU dialogue. “From 1 July 2017 till the end of the year Estonia will take over the presidency in the Council of the European Union, for the first time in its history, and will be in charge of defining the areas of lawmaking in the EU and policy formation of the Council of the EU,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
