MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Belarus will get its tourists home from Egypt by 27 March, Belarus Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk told journalists on 19 March, BelTA has learned.

“We intend to bring all our citizens back from that country by 27 March,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

He noted that as of 17 March, around 6,000 Belarusian tourists were stranded in Egypt and could not return home as a number of countries imposed travel restrictions for foreign citizens.

Some 2,000 out of 6,000 people have already returned home from Egypt. They bought a holiday package and flew to Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh by charter flights.

Another 2,000 Belarusians are stranded in other popular travel destinations: Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Turkey, and Cuba. The Belarusian government together with travel agencies is working to help them return to Belarus.

Egypt is traditionally the most popular travel destination among Belarusians.
