Belarus to attend ACS summit in June

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov will take part in the meetings of the summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) during his visit to Cuba on 2-5 June, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told media on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

While in Cuba, Yevgeny Shestakov will hold bilateral consultations on political, trade and economic issues with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba. The Belarusian official is also expected to hold talks with a delegation of Mexico.

Belarus got the observer status in the Association of Caribbean States in January 2016.

Yevgeny Shestakov’s visit is aimed at promoting the expansion of cooperation between Belarus and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. “Cuba is Belarus’ strategic foreign political partner on the international arena and one of its most important allies in the Western Hemisphere,” Dmitry Mironchik said. Belarus and Cuba have reached considerable progress in the development of bilateral relations, created wide infrastructure for interstate contacts. The two countries are engaged in an inter-parliamentary dialogue and enjoy a solid legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
