Belarus, Thailand to expand cooperation in tourism, trade, politics
NEW DELHI, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sihasak Phuangketkeow on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The ministers summed up results of the implementation of agreements reached during Maxim Ryzhenkov’s visit to Thailand in 2025 and discussed prospects for developing the political dialogue as well as trade and economic ties. The head of the Belarusian foreign ministry invited his Thai colleague to visit Minsk. The invitation was gratefully accepted.
Speaking about humanitarian aspects of cooperation, the ministers agreed that interpersonal contacts remain a key driver of bilateral relations. In the last six months alone more than 20,000 Belarusian tourists visited Thailand. The launch of a direct Minsk-Bangkok flight by the Belarusian flag carrier Belavia on 28 October 2026 will contribute to higher tourist traffic. The conclusion of agreements on the mutual waiving of visa requirements and on air service, which the parties agreed to complete in the near future, is also intended to simplify mutual trips.
The parties reached an agreement to hold the next round of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs in Thailand as well as the first session of the joint committee on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk. The ministers also discussed expanding the Belarusian diplomatic presence in Thailand. The parties reached an agreement on mutual support of their interests on the EAEU and ASEAN platforms and exchanged views on priority areas for building a partnership within BRICS.
In terms of trade and economic relations, the parties noted the complementary nature of the economies of the two countries. In particular, Belarus is ready to supply food and agricultural products to Thailand while the Thai side is ready to export seafood and exotic fruits to the Belarusian market in addition to investing in the hospitality industry and retail trade sector.
Upon instructions of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Maxim Ryzhenkov is participating in the 18th BRICS summit held in New Delhi. The capital of India is hosting 26 delegations from various countries, including BRICS partner states, as well as international organizations. The main theme of India’s current BRICS presidency is “Building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability”.
