MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Vietnam Vladimir Borovikov participated in the 420th meeting of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives and Other Representatives Designated by Members of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as a permanent observer, the Belarusian Embassy in Vietnam told BelTA.

The meeting addressed the Commission’s participation in the upcoming 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, including the preparation of reports and draft resolutions. Discussions also touched upon the implementation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ UN 80 Initiative, including the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to take place in Doha 4-6 November 2025.

Information was also presented about upcoming commission’s events, including the 13th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (24-27 February 2026, Bangkok) and the 82nd ESCAP session (20-24 April 2026, Baku).

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1947, ESCAP was created to promote economic cooperation among member states. It is the largest of the five UN regional commissions, both in terms of geographical coverage and population size. ESCAP's primary mission is to manage globalization processes in areas such as environmentally sustainable development, trade, and human rights. The commission works to address major regional challenges through projects, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives for its member states.
