Belarus, Tajikistan to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations in 2026

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Tajikistan will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Belarus Bakhtovar Safarzoda, who is also his country’s Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), said in an interview with BelTA.

“Over these three decades, our countries have followed a steady and substantive path of developing bilateral cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, trust, and strategic partnership,” the head of Tajikistan’s diplomatic mission emphasized. “From the very first years of interaction, a sustainable political dialogue was established at the highest and high levels, which created a solid foundation for expanding trade, and economic, industrial, scientific, technical, and humanitarian cooperation. Regular contacts, official visits, and the activities of intergovernmental commissions played an important role in this. A significant impetus to the development of the partnership was given by the working visit of the Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Tajikistan on 9 October 2025 to participate in the CIS summit and his meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.”

The ambassador considers the meetings of the CIS Heads of Government Council, held in Dushanbe on 5 June 2025 with the participation of the Belarusian prime minister, and in Minsk on 29 September 2025 with the participation of Tajikistan’s prime minister, as important confirmation of the dynamics of intergovernmental interaction. “These meetings facilitated the coordination of economic cooperation priorities, the expansion of industrial cooperation, and the deepening of integration processes within the CIS,” the diplomat noted.

“Tajikistan’s CIS chairmanship in 2025 was of particular importance for strengthening Belarusi-Tajikistan relations. During this period, cooperation with Belarus acquired an even more systematic and substantive character: close coordination was maintained on key issues of the CIS agenda, joint events, meetings of sectoral councils, and expert meetings were held. Consideration was given to trade and economic interaction, industrial cooperation, humanitarian projects, and the strengthening of interregional ties. Tajikistan’s CIS chairmanship created additional opportunities for deepening trust and practical cooperation with Belarus, which contributed to the further strengthening of strategic partnership between our countries,” Bakhtovar Safarzoda said.

The diplomat noted that today the interaction between Tajikistan and Belarus is multifaceted and mutually beneficial. Joint projects are being implemented in industrial cooperation, agriculture, machinery supplies, and food products.

Furthermore, the regions of the two countries forge ties, particularly Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast, as well as the cities of Minsk and Mogilev.
