Belarus stepping up cooperation with China to bolster security of two countries

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus is stepping up mutually beneficial cooperation with China for the sake of bolstering security of the two countries. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement as he visited the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone on 17 March, BelTA has learned.

While talking to reporters the state secretary of the Security Council noted that Belarus is now experiencing unprecedented sanction pressure.

Aleksandr Volfovich said: “The collective West has virtually launched an economic war against Belarus in order to destroy the country, rewind its development backwards by decades, and undermine living standards of the population. In these conditions it has never been more important to step up interaction with global economic players, which trade potential represents serious interest for Belarus. Such countries definitely include the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. At present Belarusian-Chinese relations have reached the level of strategic cooperation and are persistently moving towards a new stage – iron brotherhood and all-weather partnership. Interaction in the sphere of defense and security proceeds successfully.”

According to Aleksandr Volfovich, the dynamic development of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone represents the brightest example of Belarus-China constructive cooperation. As many as 86 companies from 15 countries are registered as residents of the park. The total volume of investments exceeds $1.2 billion.

A customs clearance station operates in the park and allows minimizing the cost of customs operations and make goods part of business processes promptly. A number of projects are being realized to expedite the customs declaration of goods and their transit transportation.

The customs service has been actively interacting with the People’s Republic of China for ten years already. The Chinese vehicle scanning systems the Belarusian customs service uses to scan automobiles and trains have earned a good reputation. X-ray systems for scanning luggage and goods are used effectively as well as detectors designed to find explosives and narcotic substances.

Aleksandr Volfovich pointed out that the Belarusian side appreciates China’s support and is ready to continue building up mutually beneficial cooperation for the sake of bolstering security of the two countries and raising living standards of the two nations.
