Belarus, Slovenia to prepare agreement on cooperation in nuclear, radiation safety

VIENNA, 20 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Slovenia will put together an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of nuclear and radiation safety. The agreement was reached as representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) met with a delegation of the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration in Vienna on 20 September, BelTA has learned. The Slovenia delegation was led by the agency’s Director Andrej Stritar.

The meeting took place at premises of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The sides agreed to advance bilateral cooperation and formalize it by preparing the relevant agreement on cooperation. The Gosatomnadzor delegation mentioned a number of topics of interest to Belarus. Belarus is interested in the assimilation and development of an integrated control system in the regulatory agency and licensees, in the development of the system of technical support for the regulatory agency in the area of nuclear and radiation safety, in interaction with neighboring countries, including modern approaches to emergency preparedness and response.

Apart from that, Gosatomnadzor is interested in the Slovenian experience of overseeing the operation of a nuclear power plant, said Oleg Sobolev, Head of Gosatomnadzor’s Communications and Public Information Department.
