Belarus shows interest in expanding cooperation with CIS states

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Tatiana Runets took part in the meeting of the Standing Commission on Economy and Finance of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, held at the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament.
The session considered a wide range of draft model legislative acts in digitalization and digital economy, trade, taxation, and many more. MPs also discussed proposals for inclusion in the draft long-term plan of model lawmaking in the CIS for 2023-2025.
“We have discussed a big block of issues on model legislation. We have also expressed an opinion to supplement the plan with the model law “On economic security of the CIS member states”. The relevance and importance of this issue are confirmed by the events taking place in our region today, including the sanctions pressure, the growth of tensions around the region and in general the strengthening of threats and the emergence of new challenges to the security of the CIS in the economic sector,” said Tatiana Runets.
The senator also praised positive trends in the CIS mutual trade. “In January-August 2022 Belarus’ trade with the CIS countries amounted to $30.7 billion, up 1.3% compared to the same period last year. It should be noted that the trade with the CIS countries takes a significant share in the total volume of Belarus’ foreign trade (65.2%). This year Belarus’ main trading partners among the CIS countries have been Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Belarus is interested in boosting its trade and economic cooperation with all the CIS member states. Our country is ready to consider implementation of new projects in various areas, which will help find new points of growth to increase mutual trade and expand cooperation between the CIS member states,” she added.
