MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Director General of the National Center for Intellectual Property of Belarus (NCIP) Vladimir Ryabovolov spoke about Belarus’ innovations in the field of intellectual property protection at the Sixty-Fourth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, BelTA learned from the NCIP press service.

Vladimir Ryabovolov noted that Belarus highly appreciates WIPO’s efforts to build a multilateral dialogue for exchanging the best practices to promote innovative development of all countries.

According to the NCIP director general, Belarus is successfully implementing a WIPO project to introduce an institutional policy in intellectual property for universities and research organizations, is expanding a network of technology and innovation support centers. In addition to that, the country is consistently building up the innovative capacity of technology parks as part of a joint project of WIPO and the Eurasian Patent Organization. Belarus is also actively working to join the Lisbon System for the International Registration of Appellations of Origin (AOs) and Geographical Indications.

Vladimir Ryabovolov expressed concern about the attempts to politicize the theme of intellectual property. “Illegal unilateral coercive measures undermine the efforts of WIPO and its member states to create an enabling environment for innovation and creativity, economic, social and cultural development for the benefit of everyone,” the NCIP chief said.
