Belarus sees big potential in interregional cooperation with China

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – There are big prospects in the Chinese-Belarusian interregional cooperation, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with the Chinese parliamentary delegation led by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang on 17 April, BelTA has learned.

“We are happy to see our contacts being developed not only at the supreme and high levels, but also between the regions. We are determined to continue developing such cooperation. We see a very big potential in regional cooperation,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

In his words, in 2017 Belarus and China are marking 25 years of diplomatic relations. Mikhail Myasnikovich congratulated the Chinese delegation on the date. The speaker expressed hope that the present visit would open a new page in the development of inter-parliamentary contacts and give a new impetus.

According to him, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with Zhang Dejiang in September 2016. “To some extent your current visit is a continuation of that meeting and the implementation of the agreements reached in Beijing,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. In his words, sincere and trustworthy relations between the two leaders of China and Belarus are a solid foundation for comprehensive cooperation. Belarus will do its best to create the most comfortable conditions for the implementation of all the strategic goals.

Zhang Dejiang stated for his part that on the Belarusian land he feels deep friendship from the Belarusian people, government bodies. He praised the contribution made by both the countries in advancing friendship and comprehensive cooperation. The head of the Chinese delegation expressed confidence that the current talks and the exchange of opinions would promote the implementation of agreements between the heads of the two countries. “We will involve our legislative bodies in order to enhance the level of the bilateral relations,” he added.

Zhang Dejiang noted that he has come to Belarus as part of the10-day trip, during which he will also visit Latvia, Lithuania and Russia. He plans to stay in Belarus for three days, which is longer than in other countries. According to the guest, this shows the importance that China attaches to the development of relations with Belarus.
