BREST, 30 March (BelTA) – Brest hosted the first meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Penza Oblast of Russia, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian delegation is headed by Brest Oblast Governor Yuri Shuleiko. The Russian delegation is led by Governor of Penza Oblast Oleg Melnichenko.
According to Yuri Shuleiko, the parties were gearing up for the meeting for about a year. "We will do our best to implement everything we agreed on today and will agree on in the future. Our countries will continue to develop from mechanical engineering to culture," Brest Oblast Governor Yuri Shuleiko emphasized. Both sides outlined a list of projects for cooperation in agriculture, industry, tourism, culture and other areas and signed a protocol which specifies the points of interaction.
"We need to increase the pace of cooperation. We intend to develop relations in all areas. Kuznetsk, the second largest city in Penza Oblast, would like to twin with Pinsk and Baranovichi,” Oleg Melnichenko said. “I propose to hold the second meeting of the working group in Penza Oblast. We will set the date in the regular course of business."
The Russian delegation is set to visit the Brest border post and the Brest Hero Fortress memorial, a number of enterprises, business matchmaking event for exporters of Brest Oblast and Penza Oblast.
The Penza Oblast delegation will travel to Minsk on 31 March.
