Belarus-Russia Union State PA to discuss regional cooperation

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - The session of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State will discuss the ways of strengthening regional cooperation, Sergei Rakhmanov, Chairman of the Permanent Commission for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

Strengthening regional cooperation is one of the major issues on the agenda of the session, Sergei Rakhmanov noted. For his part, Vladimir Lityushkin, a member of the Russian Federation Council’s Committee on the Federal Structure, Regional Policies, Local Self-Governance and Affairs of the North, said that developing the legal framework and economic space for cooperation of regions is the main goal. The MPs are going to achieve this goal by developing new Union State laws, and also using model normative legal acts of the CIS.

Among the issues to be discussed at the session is the expansion of the parliamentary cooperation. A plan has been drawn up to bolster ties with the parliamentary organizations around the world, including Asia and Latin America. The Union State MPs will pay attention to the economic aspects related to coordination of activities in the manufacturing industry, investment and cooperation in science.

On 28 February, the Council of the Republic hosts a session of the Internal Policy Commission of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly. The MPs plan to review the progress in the implementation of the program of concerted measures in foreign policy of the states-parties to the Union State Treaty in 2016-2017, the results of the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and the Union State 2016 budget performance report.
