Belarus, Russia to unify civil legislation

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – The Justice Ministries of Belarus and Russia have outlined activities in lawmaking and IT-based management for the upcoming two years, Belarusian Justice Minister Sergei Khomenko said as he met with his Russian counterpart Konstantin Chuichenko, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to mention the work done to implement the decision of the heads of state, our presidents, aimed at the unification of the civil legislation of Belarus and Russia. For the next two years we have planned and, I hope, will implement a number of measures together, including lawmaking, IT-based management of the justice sector and nonprofit organizations. We hope that we will successfully implement all the activities and introduce best practices in our countries,” said Sergei Khomenko.

According to him, Belarus and Russia, the two brotherly Slavic nations are united by a common historical path and closeness of cultures. “In today's reality we see how important is time-tested friendship, loyalty to the word and deed,” he said.

According to the minister, the justice ministries work for the benefit of the people, and the result of the work is the improvement of the life of each person in the state.

During the meeting the parties signed the program of cooperation between the Justice Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Justice of Russia for 2023-2024, the protocol “On the implementation of the decree of the Supreme State Council of the Union State No. 6 of 4 November 2021”, the final protocol on consultations between Belarus and Russia to prepare draft international agreements in judicial matters.

Activities of the cooperation program include the topics of lawmaking, digitalization of the justice sector and activities of nonprofit organizations, and provide for continuation of work to build and improve the legal framework of cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the justice area.

The protocol fixes the results of work on unification of the civil legislation, carried out in pursuance of sub-point 6.1 of point 6 of the main directions of the implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty for 2021-2023, approved by Decree No.6 of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of 4 November 2021. In particular, the proposals prepared by the joint working group and coordinated with the interested parties for unification of the norms of civil legislation of the two countries regulating the economic activity in the Union State were approved with regard to certain types of civil law contracts, mainly the supply contract.
