Belarus, Russia to discuss migration issues on 13-15 March

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Russian ministerial group will discuss migration issues in the middle of March, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters on 1 March, BelTA has learned.

The minister commented on border-related issues in the relations with Russia and said: “I think that we should not dramatize the situation, that someone has established border zones, someone has introduced visa-free travel. We should just explain to each other the motives of our actions and see if these actions have any negative effect on the situation in the countries,” Vladimir Makei said.

The minister noted that Grodno will host a meeting of the Belarusian-Russian ministerial working group responsible for migration-related issues in the Belarus-Russia Union State from 13 to 15 March. “The group is comprised of representatives of different government bodies, including law enforcement agencies, the ministries of foreign affairs, and also consular officers. The group will consider all current matters bearing in mind the need to work out a certain algorithm for cooperation between the relevant agencies of our countries to settle all these border-related issues,” Vladimir Makei said.
