Belarus, Russia to discuss amendments to agreement on readmission

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have agreed on bilateral talks to discuss the amendments to the agreement on readmission, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Interior Ministry.

Last week Moscow played host to the 16th meeting of the interstate ministerial working group to develop recommendations for a coordinated migration policy. Taking part in the meeting were representatives of the government bodies of Belarus and Russia and the Union State Standing Committee. The parties shared the practices of implementing international and ministerial agreements, informed each other on the changes in migration legislation. The parties also talked over the ways to develop a secure communication channel and also the efficiency of cooperation in combating illegal migration.

The agenda of the meeting included issues related to the implementation of the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on readmission. The parties agreed to hold bilateral talks on the introduction of amendments to the abovementioned document. The participants of the meeting coordinated approaches to the work on the draft concept of the Union State migration policy.

A special focus was on the preparations to sign an agreement between the governments of Belarus and Russia on the matters related to the entry of foreign citizens and stateless persons, and also cooperation between the competent bodies in securing the entry for and stay of foreign fans within the Union State during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
