MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia are developing comprehensive, mutually beneficial friendly ties with allies and partners in Eurasian integration associations, reads the statement of the ministers of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia on the common foreign policy priorities of Russia and Belarus, signed by Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov following the talks in Moscow on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Russia stress the key role of the CSTO in ensuring regional security and stability. They confirm the necessity to improve foreign policy coordination within the CSTO, mechanisms of crisis response and capacity building in the fight against international terrorism, illegal drugs and organized crime. They emphasize the importance of developing peacekeeping forces of the organization and expanding the range of its partnerships. Belarus' presidency in the organization this year is aimed at achieving these goals,” the statement says.

Belarus and Russia also support the development of integration in the EAEU, which demonstrates effectiveness and sustainability in the face of geopolitical tensions. “We note with satisfaction the results of joint work to overcome the consequences of illegal restrictive measures of the West. The Russian presidency in the EAEU this year is aimed at strengthening this organization,” the ministers stressed.

“Our countries will continue joint efforts to increase cooperation within the CIS and enhance its role in the international arena. Particular attention should be paid to trade and economic cooperation, ensuring security, creating conditions for technological progress, and expanding cultural and humanitarian ties. We note the importance of promoting Russian as the language of international communication in the CIS, and support the creation of an independent international organization for the Russian language,” the statement of the foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia reads.
