Belarus, Russia sign 7 agreements in higher education

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – Heads of higher education institutions of Belarus and Russia signed seven agreements and memorandums of cooperation on 7 June, BelTA has learned.

The ceremony took place after the breakout session, Russian-Belarusian Cooperation in Education. Current Status and Development Prospects, in the Belarusian State University as part of the 3rd Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions. The education institutions will use the signed documents as a basis to work out joint education programs, scientific projects, hold seminars and conferences and develop the education space between the two countries.

Commenting on the results of the meeting, Belarus’ First Deputy Education Minister Vadim Bogush noted that “the cooperation will rely on a project approach to implement education and scientific ideas in the first place.”

According to Russian Deputy Minister of Education and Science Veniamin Kaganov, it is necessary to advance joint projects to the foreign markets. “For instance, everything that concerns the advancement of university scientific projects means a costly manufacturing process. We can run research together to make the result more competitive. We need cooperation, since not every university can afford the necessary laboratory and research facilities,” he said.

A network approach will receive further development in the education sector. The parties agreed to design a system to develop teacher training competence and joint education programs. Education institutions will have an opportunity to cooperate and attract highly-qualified teaching personnel, work out joint education programs and standards, implement scientific projects.
