MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – The UN Office in Geneva hosted a special event titled “Universality and Indivisibility of Human Rights for All”, organized by the permanent missions of Belarus and Russia to discuss their joint report on human rights violations in certain countries, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The report generated significant interest on the Geneva human rights platform. There was a lively exchange of views between the speakers, diplomats, experts and representatives of non-governmental organizations on how the materials presented could best be used to enhance cooperation on human rights in multilateral and bilateral formats,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The report was presented by Head of the Main Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Irina Velichko and Director of the Department for Multilateral Human Rights Cooperation at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Grigory Lukiyantsev.

Irina Velichko said the report is intended to promote the universality of human rights and a fair and balanced approach to their assessment in all countries. She noted that the document could serve as a useful resource for UN human rights bodies, most of which are based in Geneva, as well as for states and other stakeholders seeking to improve the quality of dialogue on human rights.
