Belarus, Russia mulling over common visa

MOSCOW, 10 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia consider a possibility to introduce a common visa, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota said at the Third International Business Summit in Nizhny Novgorod on 10 September, BelTA has learned.

“Despite a high level of integration, the two countries pursue their own visa policies; each country has its own visa services and issues only national visas, which creates inconveniences for business and tourism, as travelers often pass through the Russia-Belarus border,” Grigory Rapota said.

The matter has been raised on numerous occasions and the two countries are closely working on it. Grigory Rapota informed that he held consultations on this matter in the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia. “I believe that we will try to come up with something similar to the Schengen visa. The matter is being discussed now,” he said.
