Belarus-Russia intergovernmental group drawing up agenda of future talks

Belarus-Russia intergovernmental group drawing up agenda of future talks

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia intergovernmental working group has started drafting the agenda of the future talks designed to resolve issues in Belarus-Russia relations, Belarus’ Economy Minister Dmitry Krutoi told reporters following a session hosted by the Belarusian head of state on 10 January, BelTA has learned.

“Taking into consideration winter holidays in the Russian Federation, the joint working group has not convened for an extended meeting yet. Russia and Belarus have just appointed their members to the working group. Experts will shape the agenda of the forthcoming talks and analyze the treaties underpinning the Union State and the Eurasian Economic Union,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

He added that at present experts are working on problematic issues that are to be discussed in the future. The first session of the working group has not been scheduled yet. The agenda will be dominated by financial and economic matters.

“Putting together this group is another opportunity to resolve longstanding problems. We have tried all kinds of formats in our integration associations, and such a format as working groups and expert groups has proved as one of the best. Maybe, this format will allow this group to work more efficiently than previous groups,” he said.
